Bakery Department Manager

Job Summary

 

Under the director of the Store Director, the Bakery Department Manager has discretionary responsibility as manager; delegating and supervising all activities related to the Bakery department. The Bakery Department Manager is to ensure that the department achieves pre-determined operational and financial goals. He/she is responsible for keeping the Store and Bakery Director informed on matters concerning these activities.

Key Responsibility

  • Works safely and promotes safety at all times and follows all established safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain processes and procedures to be followed by employees in order to meet sanitary, Health Department, safety, security, weights and measure and OSHA requirement.
  • Serves as the department's primary operational and technical trainer.
  • Develops and implements department operational goals and objectives; participates in the business planning and goal setting process.
  • Controls inventory orders or supervises order of all Bakery department merchandise; maintains ample amounts and variety of products for the department. Takes periodic inventory counts as pre-determined by company practices.
  • Assists Buyer with purchasing, receiving, stocking, rotation of product and inventory of department as requested.
  • Achieves department contribution goals for the departments, including profit margin and labor costs.
  • Monitors and maintains cleanliness and organization of Bakery department.
  • Ensures that all recipes are followed and new recipes are developed prior to selling.
  • Monitors maintenance of equipment and takes action to repair.
  • Ensures that employees follow federal and state sanitation and weights and measures guidelines.
  • Prepares groups and displays merchandise; maintains an appropriate variety of fresh and appealing products.
  • Ensures appropriate execution of company merchandising and promotional plans.
  • Hires, supervises, communicates department standards, schedules, takes corrective action, director's work, evaluates, trains and develops team members in the departments.
  • Assists customers with their special needs or requests, whether verbalized or observed.
  • Handles customer complaints in a courteous and professional manner on behalf of the department.
  • Performs other duties as requested or required by management.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work prolonged periods of time in an environment with fluctuating temperature ranges
  • Able to stand prolonged periods of time
  • Able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Available to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends & holidays
