Under the direction of the Department Manager Bakery, the Cake Decorator is primarily responsible for the decoration of all types of cakes and other baked goods in the bakery. The cake decorator must be able to work efficiently with little to no supervision from the department supervisor. Must be familiar with all varieties of cakes, icing and cake decorating tools. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.


- Greets each customer and co-workers with a cheerful, friendly demeanor.

- Works safely at all times and follows all established safety guidelines and procedures

-Maintain processes and procedures to be followed by employees in order to meet sanitary requirements

- Prepares specialty orders according to customer requests.

- Maintains work area clean, tools organized and unused products and ingredients back in their respective place.

- Responsible to communicate orders effectively in order to avoid misunderstandings with other cake decorators.

- Maintains bakery cases, shelves and other bakery displays with fresh product and in their respective containers.

- Performs other duties as required or requested by management.

The employee frequently is required to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift loads of up to 40lbs unassisted, push and pull carts weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to enter coolers and freezers to retrieve items. Employee must ask another employee for assistance when lifting anything over 50 pounds.


- Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts and days as the position requires.

- Ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodation if needed.

- Ability to consistently stand, bend, stoop, reach and lift up to 50 lbs.

- Minimum 6 months commercial cake decorating experience.

- Must be highly motivated with a sense of urgency and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment at all times with all levels of employees.

- Demonstrated excellent people skills are required

- Possesses sufficient knowledge of the bakery operation including, but not limited to, product preparation, packaging and merchandising.Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items stored in elevated or overhead racks or shelves located above refrigerated boxes, in stockrooms and other storage areas.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

- Must be proficient with all tools related to cake decorating such as the air brush, pastry bags, photo cake machine, 20 qt mixer, paste/airbrush colors, toppings/sprinkles and decorating tips and nails.

- Must be familiar with a variety of icing such as butter cream (white/chocolate/pre-mixed colors), whipped toppings (non dairy/pre whipped) and dairy toppings.

- Must be familiar with all flavors and variety of cakes including scratch baked, frozen and pre-made packaged
